This is me after the 8 mile hike/climb on 4000+ foot high La Soufriere an active volcano in St. Vincent. Most of the hike is through a rain forest and that pretty much means it's gonna rain, as you can see I was not prepared, 95% of the hike was through a tropical storm. 50 feet from the top and the guide tells us we must stop. The wind picks up and the rain feels like pellets. It is an amazing sensation to be at the top of a mountain in the clouds when it rains. 50 feet away and we never made it to the top. The guide told us we must get out of here and in a hurry. So we jogged briskly down La Soufriere. When we got to the bottom the storm ends and the sun decides it wants to come out!

Wonderful rich sound
speaking to my soul.

The Pointer Sisters won their first Grammy in 1975 for the country and western song “Fairytale, ” written by Bonnie and Anita Pointer, also nominated as songwriters for Best Country Song. Prior to their Grammy award they were invited to Nashville, Tennessee to perform their country hit. No one in Nashville had ever seen them. When The Sisters strutted onto the stage the audience was set aback. A gentleman in the audience yelled out, “Hot damn, them girls is Black!” The Pointer Sisters made history as they achieved the rare distinction of becoming the first Black female singers to ever perform at the Grand Ole Opry, and Nashville fell in love with them. However, when they arrived at their celebration party, they were lead to the kitchen as they were thought to be the help.

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.

Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt and live like it's heaven on Earth. ~ Mark Twain

Neither a borrower nor a lender be; For loan oft loses both itself and friend, And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. ~ William Shakespeare, "Hamlet", Act 1 scene 3

A Black child asked his White mother, "What color is God?" and she replied, "The color of water."

Well, guess the first thing to explain is how I became known as DazMan. It all started back in the early eighties when I was the bookkeeper for a small pro audio company in Santa Monica known as Soundcraft Electronics. One day one of my co-workers, Mick Patterson, was standing by my desk watching me use the 10-key adding machine by touch. Back in the day was known to be one of the fastest people on a 10-key. Mick, who was dazzled with amazement, said in his thick British accent, "You're dazzling fast, you must be the DazMan." So the name stuck. Also at that time did the mail order minister thing and was also known in the pro audio world as Rev. Daz.

If you can't tell by the silly grin on my face, this is one of the happiest days of my life, the day I meet Tina Turner. This picture was taken August 1988 when I was a Travel Coordinator for Capitol Records. In my childhood she was my first love and knew one day we would meet. I had a poster in my hand and she asked would I like for her to autograph it. I said no because I didn't want any writing on it!

The 30 years I lived in Los Angeles I had many jobs. Sometimes wondered if there was Jamaican blood in me. My hobby was the behind the scenes entertainment work, as director and/or producer of public access television and as stage manager for Equity Waiver Plays. Below is the bio from the last play I worked on.

The Stage Manager

In the early 80s he was bookkeeper for Soundcraft Electronics, Inc., a small pro audio company, where he also helped install and repair multi-channel sound mixing consoles. From there he was employed at Capitol-EMI Records, Inc., initially as an assistant manager of royalties, later as the travel co-ordinator making travel arrangements for artistes, employees and contest winners. He was one of the few to know where any artist was at any given time. Ironically, his production career began when he was hired as the controller for Barbara Fields Buying Office, Inc. While there he co-produced numerous fashion shows, and supervised photo shoots.

His first and last stage appearance was as the much talked about Georg Bamberger in an Equity Waiver production of Peter Shaffer's "Black Comedy." Later, on a fluke, he took a friend to audition for a Pepsi commercial featuring Faith Hill and Halley Eisenberg and was talked into auditioning. Not being an actor, singer or dancer, his audition piece was "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," accompanied by his best dance moves. He had them laughing. He got the commercial. Has also done background/extra work on "The Parkers."

Over the years he has enjoyed his work as stage manager for Sir Terence Rattigan's "The Deep Blue Sea," Anton Chekhov's "Cherry Orchard" and Peter Shaffer's "Black Comedy," and he assisted the writer/director of "A Tribute to Linda Creed" hosted by Whitney Houston and George Benson. Currently, he interns at Adelphia Public Access where he produces and directs live and taped television shows.

An Unusual Place

The Moonhole
Bequia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines

The "Moonhole" is a large natural arch on the western tip of Bequia. The name comes from the fact that the Moon can be seen through the arch at certain times of the month. The dwellings built directly below the arch in the 1960's proved too dangerous for occupation due to high tides and falling rocks.

My Hometown

St. Louis, Missouri

Okay, so my little brother found my MySpace page and it wasn't what he expected.
He thought he would find family pictures. I get the hint.

2005: My little brother, who as you can see is bigger than me, my baby sister and me.

UPDATE 09/22/2008: I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After high school moved to California, only to return to St. Louis because of a job offer. 1973 - 1974 in Los Angeles was making 2.20 an hour washing cars, in St. Louis the Post Office offered me a job paying 6.85 an hour. Do the math. Two years later I returned to California, lived in Inglewood for 10 years, then in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile district for over 15 years. From there moved to Napa, California. Talk about God’s Country, Napa Valley is beautiful. Came to Corsicana to visit my mom, she told me in Texas there is no state income tax, I was sold on Texas, bought a house and have been here ever since.

This is a picture of me taken at home in Texas, December 8, 2008.
As Diana Ross once sang "It's my house and I live here."

Out of the mouth of babes. . . Back in the 80's my baby sister asked.
"Diana Ross used to be in a group?"

In Memory Of My Best Friend

Adrian "Sam" Van Hoeve

1948 - 2004

Sam and I went for a balloon ride in the fall of 2002. Ah, the perks of having a best friend who owned a Bed & Breakfast in Napa Valley. I was very proud of Sam, he started his career as a dishwasher in Paris to Maitre d' at "Jimmy's" in Beverly Hills and ended up owning one of the finest and nicest B & B's in all of Napa Valley - "The Old World Inn".  A brilliant life loving man.  I miss my dear friend.
